- ABOUT MAVUNOLAB
MAVUNOLAB is a postharvest research and innovation center based in Morogoro town, Eastern Tanzania. Founded in 2019, MAVUNOLAB conducts research and development of low-cost farm technologies, services, and products to help small-scale farmers in Tanzania avoid food loss and waste. To achieve its mission, MAVUNOLAB works and engages young engineers from universities, colleges, and technical schools in postharvest research work and innovation of high-potential technologies suitable for small-scale farming systems towards preventing unnecessary food spoilage, improving food safety and the livelihoods of farmers in Tanzania.
In promoting MAVUNOLAB work, educating, and informing farming communities, researchers and policymakers, private sector community, agribusinesses, and international development organizations in and outside Tanzania, MAVUNOLAB is looking for an experienced, passionate, and self-motivated Communications Intern to join our team. He/She will take a leading role in handling all aspects of MAVUNOLAB communications, marketing, and social media management. This is a full-time internship role with the possibility of becoming a full-time staff member in the near future.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in creating engaging content, including graphics, videos, and captions in line with MAVUNOLAB’s work and its mission
- Manage and schedule posting of content to all MAVUNOLAB social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube
- Assist in drafting content for the MAVUNOLAB Newsletter to be published on a monthly and quarterly basis
- Manage and ensure MAVUNOLAB’s website is updated regularly with relatable and updated news items, stories, and content
- Track progress, analytics, and performance of MAVUNOLAB website usage and growth of social media pages.
- Ensure uploaded content and videos have accurate thumbnails, tags, and professional descriptions complying with MAVUNOLAB and globally accepted communications protocols
- Monitor and respond to online audience (followers) comments, feedback, and questions to ensure active engagement with followers of MAVUNOLAB social media platforms and website visitors
- Collaborate with the MAVUNOLAB programs management team in planning, coordination, and execution of events and activities to promote MAVUNOLAB work
- In selected events and when needed, compile data for attendees and participants of MAVUNOLAB events and activities
- Assist in the development of a database for potential investors, donors, and partners for MAVUNOLAB work in Tanzania
- Be open and willing to assist in any other tasks as directed by the CEO
- KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- The ideal candidate must have at least two years of work experience in communications, social media management, graphic design, marketing, event planning, management, and promotion.
- She/He must be a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Social Sciences, or any other relevant fields
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Swahili
- Strong knowledge of managing LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube is a must
- Previous experience in working with research, academic, and non-profit organizations is desirable and will be an asset but not a requirement
- Experience and good knowledge in using Canva, Google WorkSpace, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams is an asset
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask effectively
- Self-driven, open to new challenges, and full of new ideas
- Interest in agritech, agriculture development, agribusiness, and environmental sustainability is a plus
