  1. ABOUT MAVUNOLAB

MAVUNOLAB is a postharvest research and innovation center based in Morogoro town, Eastern Tanzania. Founded in 2019, MAVUNOLAB conducts research and development of low-cost farm technologies, services, and products to help small-scale farmers in Tanzania avoid food loss and waste.  To achieve its mission, MAVUNOLAB works and engages young engineers from universities, colleges, and technical schools in postharvest research work and innovation of high-potential technologies suitable for small-scale farming systems towards preventing unnecessary food spoilage, improving food safety and the livelihoods of farmers in Tanzania.

MAVUNOLAB is looking for an experienced, skilled, and self-motivated Finance & Administration Officer to join our team. He/She will oversee MAVUNOLAB accounting and financial management while also providing financial support to projects, ensuring effective management of project funds. The candidate will also ensure compliance with MAVUNOLAB’s internal financial management systems and adherence to various donors’ and investors’ financial rules and regulations to prevent and mitigate non-compliance, fraud, or mismanagement of funds.

  1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in  reviewing,  improving,  and  establishing  new  financial  management  and accounting systems to ensure effective management of funds
  • Prepare timely financial statements for internal and external use, including donors’ financial reports.
  • Manage and prepare MAVUNOLAB’s tax and other compliance in accordance with Tanzania’s Revenue Authority (TRA) regulations, including but not limited to Income Tax, PAYE, Workers Compensation, VAT, and others
  • Enter all transactions relating to projects into the finance system in a timely manner
  • Ensures effective and timely processing of invoices or other payments and ensuring compliance with donor and investor rules and regulations
  • Ensure  procurement  of  services,  facilities,  and  assets  is  done  in  accordance  with MAVUNOLAB’s internal policies and procedures
  • Prepare budget forecasts and manage all accounting transactions
  • Handle monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • Reconcile petty cash account
  • Ensure timely bank payments transactions
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual project performance reports
  • Assist in the development of Proposal Budgets in liaison with the CEO and the program teams
  • Review monthly income and expenditure statements with project teams to monitor the budget performances.
  • Participate in project audits /organizational audits as required
  • Be open and willing to assist in any other tasks as directed by the CEO and the Board
  1. KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Administration, Finance, Commerce or relevant qualification.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software, preferably QuickBooks
  • Professional qualification -CPA II or its equivalent will be an Asset
  • Advanced MS Excel skills and other relevant software is a must
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical and attention to details
  • Good organization, planning, and coordination skills
  • Problem-solving skills and team player
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
