Job Function

Assist the Chief Commercial Officer to develop the overall commercial strategy, define contracts, tariff evaluations and support activities like marketing of port services and public relations. Maintain relations with local liner agents, BCOs and other key stakeholders to promote business. Represent DP World Dar es Salaam during business events and other stakeholder engagements.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Building and maintaining strong, long-lasting customer relationships
  • Develop new business with existing clients and/or identify areas of improvement to meet targeted revenue increase
  • Forecast and track key account metrics (e.g. quarterly container volume results and annual forecasts)
  • Initiate smart solutions to help the company to tab into new opportunities, empowering automation and digitization
  • Overseeing customer account management, including negotiating contracts and agreements to maximize profit
  • Serve as the direct point of contact with assigned clients to ensure prompt and accurate service to exceed client expectations.
  • Managing clients’ needs, including overseeing all operational and account management tasks throughout the lifecycle of any engagement.
  • Develop trusted advisor relationships with key accounts, customer stakeholders and executive sponsors.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and make key decisions on behalf of our clients throughout the lifecycle of our service.
  • Assist with challenging client requests or issue escalations as needed
  • Follow up with clients and make visits to client locations.
  • Ensure the timely and successful delivery of our solutions according to customer needs and objectives
  • Clearly communicate the progress of monthly/quarterly initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain and help create company’s policies related to credit, pricing, account management and required service deliveries.
  • Maintain and organize all records for a client’s transactional event(s).
  • Stay informed on various legal requirements to maintain compliance with local regulations.
  • Gather market intelligence on local / transit market developments, industry and competitor updates to update BU management.
  • Analyze periodic statistics to highlight variations to the volumes for the assigned accounts, destinations and commodities.
  • Liaise with various trade bodies and businesses to assist in providing the necessary data for budgeting and forecasting purposes.
  • Manage HO CRM to capture all commercial issues and opportunities, sales leads, customer visits, contracts, competitor information etc. and maintain accurate and updated information in CRM
  • Prepare presentations to management and recommendations for approvals.
  • Any other work deemed fit for structuring of tasks and goals, to achieve high productivity with efficient utilisation of resources.
  • Represent the company at trade seminars, workshops, group discussions and other public / private forums.
  • Number of cross-selling or up-selling opportunities identified from existing client base.
  • Achieve year on year improvement in service levels as measured through customers’ assessments of service quality, professional competence, and objective achievement
  • Improve Customer Satisfaction (measured through survey)
  • On time and accurate submission of daily, weekly and annual reports and market intelligence as required.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelors/master’s in business administration / commerce
  • Additional qualification in statistics or economics is desirable

Experience and Skills Required:

  • 3- 5 years of experience in Marketing, Trade, Product management from within the ports or shipping industry. Candidates having East African shipping industry experience will be preferred.
  • Business acumen: identify key revenue and cost drivers and understand their impact on an overall business case
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving skills and confidence to operate in a customer centric manner
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Financial analysis: understand and evaluate complex financial models to determine the accuracy of projections
