Skills and Expertise Requirements
Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights
- At least 20 years of progressive experience in human rights, international relations, or a closely related field.
- Experience in large multicultural institutions.
- Experience in policy planning, political analysis, and programme management, including coordination within a multilateral framework.
- Proven track record of excellent management and leadership skills.
- Well-demonstrated negotiating and diplomatic skills.
- Ability to work harmoniously in a multicultural team and establish effective relationships inside and outside the organisation.
- Strong commitment to UN values and guiding principles, with sound understanding of the UN system, including peacekeeping, human rights, humanitarian, and development contexts.
Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights
- At least 20 years of progressive experience in human rights or related fields, with a strong focus on management, resource mobilisation, financial, and/or human resources in large multilateral institutions.
- Experience in programme management, project planning and analysis, and programme budgeting in large organisations.
- Proven track record of excellent management and technical leadership skills, including coordination within a multilateral framework.
- Well-demonstrated negotiating and diplomatic skills.
- Ability to work harmoniously in a multicultural team and establish effective relationships inside and outside the organisation.
- Strong commitment to UN values and guiding principles, with sound understanding of the UN system, including peacekeeping, human rights, humanitarian, and development contexts.
Other Terms
- Languages: Fluency in English is required. A working knowledge of French or another official UN language will be an advantage.
- Criminal Offence Clearance: Nominees must attach a clearance certificate from relevant authorities.
