- 1. JOB BRIEF
The position of Insurance Underwriter involves evaluating and assessing insurance or loan applications to determine their risk and eligibility for approval. As an Underwriter, you will analyze financial data, review policy or loan terms, and make informed decisions to ensure sound risk management and compliance with underwriting guidelines. You will collaborate with brokers, agents, and clients to provide excellent customer service and maintain a high level of accuracy in underwriting decisions.
- 2. KEY DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES
o Prepare all TIRA reports.
o Evaluate insurance or loan applications and assess the risk level based on financial data, credit history, and other relevant information.
o Analyze and review policy terms, loan terms, or contract terms to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulations.
o Collaborate with brokers, agents, or clients to gather additional information, clarify details, and provide underwriting recommendations.
o Determine the appropriate insurance coverage or loan terms, considering risk factors, industry trends, and client profiles.
o Calculate insurance premiums or loan amounts based on the risk assessment and established pricing models.
o Make underwriting decisions within established authority limits and escalate complex cases to senior underwriters or management.
o Maintain accurate and up-to-date underwriting records, documentation, and reports.
o Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and communicating underwriting decisions to stakeholders.
o Collaborate with the claims or loan servicing teams to review policy or loan modifications and handle underwriting-related inquiries.
o Premium and commission reconciliation with insurers
- 3. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
o Bachelor’s degree in Insurance
o 2 – 3 years of experience in a similar role
o Proven experience as an Underwriter or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of underwriting principles and practices.
o Solid knowledge of insurance policies, loan products, or financial risk assessment.
o Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate financial data and make informed underwriting decisions.
o Strong attention to detail and accuracy in underwriting assessments and documentation.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
o Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple cases simultaneously, and meet underwriting deadlines.
o Proficiency in underwriting software and tools to facilitate risk analysis and decision- making.
o Familiarity with regulatory compliance and industry standards in underwriting.
