Job Title: Head; Business Value Chain and Ecosystem (1 Position)

Location: Head Office


Job Purpose:

The Head of Business Value Chain and Ecosystem is responsible for driving the ecosystem approach for selected anchor clients by ensuring seamless service provision across the target anchors’ value chains. The role will coordinate business execution in collaboration with cross-functional teams (Wholesale, Retail, and Treasury) to strengthen C-suite engagement and optimize the Bank’s share of wallet with anchor clients and strategic projects.


Main Responsibilities:

1. Business Expertise

Wholesale Aspects

  • Develop a deep understanding of wholesale business strategy, opportunities, and dynamics.
  • Analyze sectoral ecosystems, requirements, and opportunities for growth.
  • Leverage market and economic dynamics, including emerging projects.

Retail Aspects

  • Understand retail business dynamics and operating structures.
  • Integrate retail banking into wholesale to capture value chain opportunities.
  • Support relationship management roles in sharing cross-business opportunities.
  • Advise management on efficient operating models for effective pipeline execution.

Treasury Aspects

  • Ensure understanding of treasury solutions and their role in managing liquidity and foreign exchange risks.
  • Identify financing opportunities aligned with business priorities and the Bank’s risk appetite.

2. Analytical Expertise

  • Design management and stakeholder reports with actionable insights.
  • Analyze deposit movements within and outside the Bank to advise stakeholders.
  • Provide analytical insights on portfolio behavior and performance trends.
  • Lead digitization initiatives to enhance ecosystem performance.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline repository of value chain initiatives for the Bank.

3. Solutions Structuring

  • Propose and participate in structuring solutions to unlock value chain opportunities.
  • Introduce best practices to strengthen value chain performance.
  • Advise management on pricing and strategic discussions, providing insights on value chain potentials.

4. Strategic Direction

  • Align value chain strategies with the Bank’s medium-term plans.
  • Establish milestones to guide transformation of business approaches.
  • Build capacity across senior management to strengthen value chain execution.
  • Drive a value chain perspective throughout business planning and execution.
  • Support business units in developing and executing strategic initiatives.
  • Build and lead a high-performing, collaborative team to support business growth.
  • Provide 360° technical expertise to the Strategy and Growth functions.

5. Governance

  • Lead the establishment of KPIs across business units.
  • Create or integrate value chain forums within existing business structures.
  • Represent and provide leadership in key business forums.
  • Track and report progress on value chain commitments approved in relevant committees (e.g., Credco).

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of value chain and ecosystem banking.
  • Proven ability to identify and leverage value chain opportunities.
  • Deep understanding of key business sectors: agriculture, tourism, mining, energy, government, and institutional banking.
  • Proficiency in credit, trade finance, and cash management solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic thinking and analytical acumen.
  • Proficiency in enterprise data analytics for business opportunity identification.
  • Strong leadership and self-driven execution capabilities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Accountancy, Computer Science, IT, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in any of the above fields will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge and experience in Management Information (MI) and Analytics will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in banking, including at least 5 years in business departments, with a proven track record of leadership in medium to large organizations.
