Recruitment Note

Technical cooperation appointments:
- Do not lead to an ILO career.
- Carry no expectation of renewal or conversion.
- Are issued as a one-year fixed-term contract, with extensions dependent on funding, functional needs, and performance.
Entry Salary (external candidates): KES 1,651,201 per year (Step 1 of the grade).
Introduction
The Government of the Netherlands supports a global partnership involving the Government of the Netherlands, IFC, ILO, UNHCR, UNICEF, and the World Bank. The partnership aims to:
- Strengthen the socio-economic inclusion of forcibly displaced persons.
- Enhance access to education and child protection for vulnerable displaced children.
- Support inclusive socio-economic development that benefits both host communities and displaced populations.
In this context, the ILO is recruiting a Senior Driver to support implementation of the Inclusive Jobs and Education for Host Communities, Refugees, and Other Forcibly Displaced Persons in Kenya – PROSPECTS initiative.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the ILO Country Director for Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi (CO–Dar es Salaam), the Senior Driver will report directly to the Chief Technical Advisor for PROSPECTS, based in Nairobi.
Description of Duties
- Provide safe and reliable driving services for project staff, authorized personnel, and visitors.
- Meet officials and visitors at airports and assist with protocol, immigration, customs, and related formalities.
- Collect and deliver official mail, documents, pouches, and other materials.
- Ensure cost-effective vehicle use, maintain accurate daily logs, and prepare vehicle maintenance schedules.
- Conduct daily vehicle maintenance, including minor repairs, major repair arrangements, oil changes, tire checks, brake inspections, washing, and upkeep.
- Ensure availability of complete vehicle documentation and supplies such as insurance, registration, logs, maps, first aid kits, and MOSS-compliant equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, servicing, and repairs.
- Follow established procedures in case of road accidents and report accordingly.
- Ensure all required emergency and safety equipment (e.g., first aid kit, fire extinguisher, radios, spare parts) are functional.
- Notify the supervisor of upcoming vehicle registration and insurance renewals.
- Stay informed about local security conditions and advise on alternative routes or precautions.
- Provide clerical support including filing, photocopying, document collection and delivery to ministries, banks, and partners.
- Assist with logistical arrangements (meetings, travel planning, stationery management, and project documentation).
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Completion of secondary school.
- Valid driving licence.
- Knowledge of driving rules, regulations, and basic vehicle repair.
Experience
- Minimum three years of driving experience with a solid safety record.
- Experience providing clerical/administrative support is an advantage.
Languages
- Excellent command of English and Kiswahili.
Competencies
- Strong knowledge of local traffic regulations and road networks.
- Familiarity with chauffeur protocol and courtesy standards.
- Good understanding of security conditions and risk-awareness practices.
- Ability to maintain accurate vehicle logs and service records.
- Skills in minor vehicle repair and maintenance.
- Ability to operate GPS systems, UHF/VHF radios, and similar communication equipment.
- Knowledge of standard office procedures and ability to use office equipment.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and recordkeeping.
- Polite, professional, and cooperative demeanour.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance regulations and defensive driving techniques.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and gender-sensitive environment.
