Job Title:   Assistant Manager at Maasai Girls Rescue Center

Location:   Karatu, Tanzania

About Us:The Maasai Girls Rescue Center in Karatu is dedicated to providing a safe haven for Maasai girls who are at risk of female genital mutilation (FGM), early marriage, and lack of educational opportunities. Our mission is to empower these girls through education, vocational training, health care, and community reintegration, fostering an environment where they can thrive and lead change in their communities.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a passionate, highly organized, and dedicated Assistant Manager to help lead our center towards greater impact and sustainability. The Assistant Manager will work closely with the Center Manager to ensure the smooth operation of our programs and uphold our commitment to the welfare of the girls under our care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the day-to-day management of the center, including staff supervision, program coordination, and resource management.
  • Support the development and implementation of educational, vocational, and health programs tailored to the needs of the girls.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and mentoring of center staff and volunteers.
  • Manage budget allocations for various activities and ensure financial accountability.
  • Help maintain relationships with local community leaders, donors, and international partners to advocate for the center’s mission and secure funding.
  • Participate in strategic planning to scale up our impact and adapt programs as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Tanzanian child protection laws and uphold the center’s ethical standards.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, community development, or a related field. A Master’s degree is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in management roles within NGOs, particularly those focused on child welfare, education, or women’s rights.
  • Profound understanding of the cultural context of the Maasai community, with experience working within or alongside indigenous communities.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills; ability to motivate and lead a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Swahili; knowledge of Maa language is a plus.
  • Proven ability in project management, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Sensitivity to the psychological and emotional needs of children from traumatic backgrounds.
  • Must be adept at fundraising, grant writing, or donor relations.
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment with limited resources, showing resilience and creativity in problem-solving.
  • Must be committed to the mission of the center, with a passion for gender equality and education.
