Job Title: Branch Manager – Retail & SME Banking
Department: Retail & SME Banking

Location: Karatu – Arusha
Job Purpose
The Branch Manager will be responsible for achieving the branch’s Retail and SME financial targets through effective sales and service management. The role involves ensuring smooth branch operations, compliance with internal and regulatory standards, and delivering superior customer service.
The position requires close collaboration with the Central Operations Unit to maintain operational efficiency and compliance with the Bank of Tanzania (BOT) regulations, institutional policies, and procedures. The Branch Manager will also oversee servicing of corporate customers within the branch.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of branch operations to ensure optimal performance, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
- Drive business growth by achieving CASA (Current Account, Savings Account) and fee income targets, while maintaining a strong focus on customer service.
- Lead and motivate the branch team to deliver world-class sales performance and exceptional service.
- Identify opportunities to build, strengthen, and grow profitable customer relationships.
- Acquire new customers and manage retention and growth of existing accounts.
- Ensure operational efficiency of the branch and optimize staff productivity.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of all branch transactions, including inter-bank activities.
- Prepare and submit periodic, management, and statutory reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensure adherence to branch control procedures, focusing on risk management, compliance, and financial security.
- Resolve complex customer issues promptly and collaboratively with other branches or departments to ensure a seamless client experience.
- Promote a strong service culture through coaching, mentorship, and team motivation.
- Actively participate in community and business development activities to enhance the bank’s visibility and attract new business opportunities.
- Perform duties of the MCSOP / Operations Manager in their absence as directed by the Cluster Head.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in branch management or a similar leadership role within the banking sector.
- Proven leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong understanding of banking operations, sales management, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- In-depth commercial and financial acumen with sound decision-making abilities.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, banking principles, and risk management frameworks.
- Strategic thinker with strong relationship-building and problem-solving abilities.
- Resilient under pressure with the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
