Job Summary
The Governance and Control Officer will support the Head of Governance and Control in maintaining a robust control environment, implementing Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Legal and Administrative Management (LAM) activities, and ensuring effective dissemination of corporate policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines. The role ensures smooth operations, compliance, and governance within the bank’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) function.
Key Accountabilities
1. Risk Monitoring, Reporting, and Remediation (60%)
- Engage with the COO’s office on Critical Process Assessments (CPAs) as per the agreed strategy.
- Identify potential risks and implement appropriate controls.
- Conduct half-yearly CPA testing and manage issues to ensure timely closure.
- Perform surprise snap checks in designated areas.
- Review booked risk events, conduct lessons learned, and escalate appropriately.
- Maintain and monitor the tracker of policies, standards, procedures, and manuals to ensure timely updates.
- Upload approved circulars, frameworks, policies, and manuals to the intranet promptly.
- Ensure all business units use the latest letterheads and documentation templates.
- Manage conduct risk deliverables including quarterly reports, self-assessment tools, and key indicators.
- Prepare COO meeting packs, record minutes, and track implementation of agreed actions.
- Support quarterly key risk assessments (KRAs) within COO’s scope, ensuring remediation of red and amber risks.
- Ensure all business areas have fit-for-purpose BCM plans, including recovery strategies covering people, processes, systems, and third-party dependencies.
- Support incident and crisis management planning, testing, and activation, including scenario planning and site response.
- Conduct monthly cost reconciliations and submit to Finance for consolidation.
- Provide training to business champions on CPAs, risk events, KRAs, and related risk reporting.
- Provide assurance on monthly risk reports submitted to the internal risk team.
2. People Management (20%)
- Ensure SMART performance objectives are in place and aligned with functional and regional goals.
- Support the line manager in building a high-performance team through monthly performance discussions and portfolio evidence preparation.
- Maintain an up-to-date succession plan for key roles within the team.
3. Personal Career Management (20%)
- Comply with all policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
- Prepare and submit accurate, timely reports.
- Maintain and regularly update applicable registers.
- Safeguard personal system credentials and follow IT security standards.
- Meet personal training and development objectives as per the agreed plan.
- Proactively identify and address personal development and training needs.
- Effectively utilize electronic tools and media for work efficiency.
- Stay informed of procedural and policy changes within NBC.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Commerce, or related field.
Preferred Qualification:
- Postgraduate degree in Business Administration.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years in Risk Management or Internal Audit.
