Mission and objectives
The UN Resident Coordinator is the representative of the UN Secretary-General in Tanzania and is responsible for coordinating the work of the UN Tanzania Country Team (UNCT) which consists of 23 UN Agencies.
Context
This UNV assignment strengthens the RCO’s communication and visibility initiatives by integrating communications and graphic design functions. The Communications Associate will support the RCO Communications team in making the UN’s contributions toward sustainable development more visible. The role will engage with various stakeholders, including the UN Communication Group (UNCG) and UN agencies, ensuring cohesive and impactful communication efforts.
Task description
Under the overall guidance of the Head of UNRCO, and under the direct supervision of the National Information Officer, RCO Communication unit, the Communications Associate will: Content Creation and Management
- Develop engaging content, including social media posts, articles, and press releases, to highlight the UN’s development activities in Tanzania.
- Document UN initiatives and events through high-quality photography, videography, and visual storytelling.
- Collect, draft and edit materials for newsletters, web stories, reports, and brochures.
- Manage all content for the UN Tanzania website and social media platforms.
Graphic Design and Layout
- Design and produce various communication materials such as banners, posters, booklets, reports, newsletters, leaflets, and presentations, and social media posts.
- Ensure that all designs adhere to UN branding guidelines, enhancing the visibility and accessibility of content.
Media Monitoring and Reporting
- Monitor media coverage relevant to the UN’s work in Tanzania, compiling regular summaries for the RCO Communications team.
- Support monitoring and compilation of national news related to the SDGs, official development assistance, and other relevant topics.
- Track trends in public perception and engagement related to UN initiatives and programs, offering insights to enhance communication strategies. ed6aWhP B2wwXg
- Assist in developing reports on communication reach and impact, gathering metrics from social media, media outlets, and event engagement.
- Perform any other duties as required.
Eligibility criteria
Age: 18 – 80
Nationality
Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
Requirements
Required experience
3 years of experience in communications, media, graphic design, experience with social media management and photojournalism is desirable.
- Skills: Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite), social media tools including analytics, and content management systems/software; photo editing skills desirable.
- Additional Requirements: Demonstrated creativity, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural setting.
