Job Overview

Kafika House is seeking a dynamic, mission-driven Deputy CEO to serve as the CEO’s principal partner and help lead the organisation into its next phase of growth and impact. The role provides overall oversight of day-to-day operations, drives implementation of strategic and annual plans, and ensures strong governance, compliance, and organisational performance.

As delegated authority in the CEO’s absence, the Deputy CEO will engage with key government and external stakeholders and work closely with the leadership team to strengthen coordination and effectiveness across the organisation. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to an individual who excels in both strategy and operations and leads with empathy, integrity, and accountability.

Leadership Progression: This position is intentionally designed as a succession pathway, with a clear plan for the successful candidate to transition into the CEO role.


Key Responsibilities

1. Organisational Leadership

  • Lead implementation of the organisation’s strategic and annual work plans.
  • Ensure efficient, accountable operations across all departments and teams.
  • Oversee annual budgeting processes and ensure alignment with organisational priorities.
  • Maintain and strengthen governance systems, policies, and internal controls.
  • Support recruitment, development, and retention of senior leadership staff.
  • Foster a professional, collaborative, and mission-driven organisational culture.

2. External Relations & Compliance

  • Lead engagement with selected government stakeholders and ensure full regulatory compliance.
  • Support management of donor, partner, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Oversee preparation and submission of key reports, proposals, and organisational documentation.
  • Represent Kafika House in selected external forums and stakeholder engagements.

3. Executive Partnership with the CEO

  • Act as delegated authority in the CEO’s absence.
  • Provide strategic analysis and recommendations to support executive decision-making.
  • Track organisational priorities and ensure timely follow-through on key actions.
  • Coordinate preparation for board and executive meetings.
  • Prepare high-level internal and external communications.

Qualifications & Skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Health, or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in senior management or executive leadership, preferably within the NGO or nonprofit sector.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams, managing complex projects, and delivering results on time and within budget.
  • Strong understanding of organisational operations, governance, and strategy implementation.
