About the Role

Northern Engineering Works Ltd (NEWL) is seeking a skilled and proactive Field Engineer to join our Operations Team. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with a passion for technology, committed to ensuring high-quality service delivery and network reliability.

The Field Engineer will be responsible for executing preventive and corrective maintenance at sites, ensuring generator and power system reliability, and maintaining service levels in line with contractual Service Level Agreements (SLA).


Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance and Operations

  • Execute Preventive Maintenance (PM) as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Ensure 100% DC Power Availability across assigned sites.
  • Attend Callouts within the Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR).
  • Ensure all assigned Site Work Orders (SWO) are completed within SLA timelines.
  • Maintain all client and NEWL assets in excellent working condition.
  • Service and maintain Diesel Generators (DGs) in accordance with Manufacturer’s Recommendations.
  • Maintain Air Conditioner Units and Fire Extinguishers as per SLA standards.
  • Conduct Site Earth Measurements to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain assigned Portable DGs and Portable Rectifiers at GMT stores.
  • Ensure all Remote Monitoring Systems (RMS) are functional and communicating.
  • Close Fuel Delivery Work Orders (FDWO) and Luku requests as per SLA.
  • Submit comprehensive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports for all corrective maintenance activities.

2. Reporting, Compliance, and Inventory

  • Adhere to Standard Day Requirements and attend Daily Cluster Meetings.
  • Comply with all Site Access Procedures.
  • Ensure all sites remain visible at the Network Operations Center (NOC).
  • Maintain high data integrity in ServiceNow (SN).
  • Complete all Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks as per the operational plan.
  • Properly manage SLA Spares and Consignment Stock.
  • Request daily replenishment of SLA spares to maintain optimal inventory levels.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order within GMT Stores.
  • Upload all completed site tasks to ServiceNow in compliance with access procedures.

3. Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ)

  • Ensure full SHEQ compliance during all operations.
  • Report at least five (5) Near Misses and one (1) Hazard each month.
  • Complete Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA) before all planned work.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Complete a Journey Management Plan when traveling over 150 km or 3 hours.
  • Ensure proper waste disposal in accordance with environmental policies.
  • Conduct Daily Vehicle Inspections.
  • Verify the functionality of Dashcams and In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems (IVMS) before travel.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Registration

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in the Telecommunications Industry.
  • Registered with EWURA and Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Project Management tools.
  • Proactive, innovative, and assertive individual.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Familiar with installation and maintenance procedures for power systems at Base Transceiver Station (BTS) sites.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to field locations.
