Job Purpose
The Head of Business Finance & Analytics is responsible for driving the bank’s financial performance and analytical initiatives. The role focuses on understanding the key drivers of the balance sheet and income for all business units, delivering insightful financial reporting to executives, and ensuring revenue assurance across all products to support profitability and sustainable growth.
Main Responsibilities
1. Performance Management & Business Partnership
- Lead the preparation of the annual budget and proactively monitor achievement of key revenue and balance sheet targets.
- Partner with business units by providing accurate and timely reflections of performance, revenue, costs, and profitability.
- Deliver objective and analytical insights into business and product performance, highlighting risks and opportunities.
- Support business units in analyzing cost drivers relative to budgets.
- Proactively identify risks and opportunities affecting financial performance.
- Manage costs and investments by understanding the cost base, anticipating risks, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Strategy team to align financial goals with the strategic agenda.
- Collect and analyze market and competitive data to enhance product profitability.
- Provide financial insights in key strategic projects and new product initiatives.
- Maintain accurate financial models for all business, customer, and product segments.
- Ensure accurate and complete financial management information in collaboration with ICT and business teams.
- Produce monthly management packs with quantitative reports and qualitative commentaries for senior executives.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, including timely and accurate BOT submissions.
- Resolve issues related to data capture and ensure data integrity for financial analysis.
2. Financial Controls and Compliance
- Strengthen the financial control environment through process improvements and capability building.
- Ensure compliance with IAS, IFRS, and the bank’s accounting policies and regulatory standards.
- Define and document accounting entries and guidelines for all new and existing products.
- Conduct scenario analyses to assess the financial impact of changes in key economic variables (e.g., interest rates, exchange rates, inflation).
3. Operational Risk Management and Assurance Framework
- Implement effective controls to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and assess operational risks, key risk indicators (KRIs), audit points, and near misses, ensuring timely mitigation.
- Manage operational risks within the Business Support & Analytics Unit through embedded and periodic controls.
- Identify and escalate risk issues promptly.
- Review cost commitments, identify cost efficiencies, and manage benefit realization.
- Participate in the Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) cost allocation and apportionment process to ensure fair distribution of costs and benefits across functions.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of banking processes, products, and financial information flows.
- Exceptional leadership and people management skills.
- Advanced analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- High emotional intelligence and strong stakeholder management skills.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Professional Accounting Qualification (CPA or ACCA) – Mandatory.
- Master’s Degree in Business Studies – Added advantage.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Business Finance, Analytics, Strategic Planning, or Financial Accounting, with leadership experience in a medium to large organization.
