Job Title: Project Control and Planning Specialist
Industry: Renewable Energy
Work Location: Across Tanzania
Job Summary
The Project Control and Planning Specialist will be responsible for planning, monitoring, and controlling renewable energy projects to ensure timely delivery within scope and budget. The role involves project scheduling, progress tracking, risk management, cost control, and reporting. The specialist will support project teams involved in solar, wind, hydro, or hybrid renewable energy initiatives.
Key Responsibilities / Duties
1. Project Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules using tools such as Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar software.
- Define project milestones, critical paths, dependencies, and resource requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to integrate all project activities into the master schedule.
2. Project Monitoring & Control
- Track project progress against the approved baseline schedule and budget.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to time, cost, and quality.
- Identify schedule or cost deviations, analyze impacts, and recommend corrective actions.
3. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare progress reports, dashboards, and executive summaries for management and stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate project records including schedules, change logs, and risk documentation.
- Support monthly and quarterly project reviews, including presentations to the board.
4. Cost Control & Forecasting
- Assist in budgeting, cost forecasting, and financial analysis for renewable energy projects.
- Monitor project expenditures and provide variance analysis between planned and actual costs.
- Ensure alignment of project financials with contractual terms.
5. Risk & Change Management
- Identify potential project risks, schedule delays, and resource constraints.
- Support management of change requests and revisions to project scope.
- Implement proactive risk mitigation strategies.
6. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, procurement, construction, HSE, and finance.
- Support communication with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Facilitate workshops and meetings for schedule updates and project planning.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of five (5) years experience developing and maintaining project execution plans and schedules for photovoltaic (PV) solar projects or power plants of similar technology.
- Experience in planning and controlling PV plants with a combined peak capacity exceeding 4 MW, including at least one PV plant above 4 MW.
- Strong proficiency in project management tools such as Primavera P6, MS Project, SAP, or equivalent.
- Experience in cost control, forecasting, and project financial management.
- Strong understanding of renewable energy project lifecycles (solar, wind, hydro).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- PMP, PMI-SP, or equivalent certification is an added advantage.
