Currently Islands of Peace works in 6 countries: Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Peru, Uganda and Tanzania. Islands of Peace also conducts activities in Belgium such as advocacy and development education. Islands of Peace supports the emergence of sustainable food systems, that is, the promotion of systems of production, marketing and consumption of food which guarantee the right to food for all without compromising the economic, social and environmental foundations necessary for the food and nutritional security of the future generations. It also specifies that:       Islands of Peace supports in particular small family farmers, who are the most directly impacted by poverty and food insecurity;       Islands of Peace adopts, in a comprehensive manner, the principles of agro ecology as a pathway leading towards a transition to sustainable food systems, considering that agro ecology is strongly linked to the concept of the right to food and produces proven results, particularly for vulnerable populations. To support this transition, IDP focuses on three interrelated strategies. Firstly, support small-scale farmers in enhancing, expanding, and diversifying their production through agroecological practices, aiming to improve resilience to climate change. Secondly, to support farmers in upgrading storage, processing, and marketing capacities, aligning with agroecological principles. This involves providing access to credit and creating local, green, and decent jobs. Lastly, IDP promotes a conducive environment for sustainable food systems by engaging in advocacy efforts, raising awareness among public and decision makers, and mobilizing consumers and authorities towards sustainable practices. Special emphasis is placed on empowering women and youth for active participation in the social and economic aspects of farming. In Tanzania, Islands of Peace has been established and officially recognized as an International NGO since 2015, actively engaged in implementing various projects in the Arusha Region.
