Job Vacancy with Carbon Tanzania – Project Officer

 Description

Carbon Tanzania is an innovative conservation business focused on producing and delivering forest-based carbon credits. These credits are generated through the efforts of local Tanzanian communities who conserve and manage their indigenous forests. We prioritize the respect for local community land rights, which leads to significant and sustained local economic benefits and encourages communities to protect their environment and way of life.

Carbon Tanzania is currently looking for a project officer to serve as a liaison. The project officer will be in charge of communicating with the Wildlife Management Area (WMA) on behalf of CT Limited. This will involve representing CT Limited in a number of meetings, gathering data related to the project, and working together to make sure the carbon project is implemented in a way that protects the forest and maximizes benefits to the community in conjunction with the WMA.

Duty Station: Makame -Kiteto

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure effective communications with CT office as well as relevance stakeholders as instructed by CT management
  2. Consistent follow up:
  3. Regular scheduled /unscheduled meetings with communities and other stakeholders
  4. Monitoring communities close to project boundaries
  1. Implement community awareness campaign on carbon project requirements such as forest conservation and community benefits
  1. Attend government meetings and represent Carbon Tanzania as well as coordinating WMA’s villages and District on Carbon Project matters
  2. Data collection MRV -Reporting
  3. Collecting patrols and community data for the verification as well as preparing progress reports for the project
  1. Revenue distribution -use-reporting
  1. Attend and mediate revenue meetings as well as encourage gender balance on the project decisions and implementations
  2. Assist in decision making and help community understand the financial procedures and requirements i.e., project guidelines, government standards, by laws etc.
  3. Follow up on the uses of revenues in the management and implementation
  4. Documentation of minutes, data and reports and other financial supporting documents
  5. Individual project activities and events
  6. Planning
  7. Executions
  8. Follow ups and management
  9. Ensure villages and WMA follow and adhere to the contract signed with Carbon Tanzania
  10. Ensure that all investment funds forms are properly used in member village to improve the implementation of project development
  11. Receiving, co ordinating, hosting, facilitating verification visits and other project visitors as instructed by the management

Essential Skills & Experience:

 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Project Management, Project Planning, Community Development, or relevant field.
  • A good understanding of Community Based Natural Resources Management governance systems
  • Degree in Project Management, Community Development, or relevant field.
  • Good public speaking, Relationship building skills, event planning skills are essential.
  • Problem-solving attitude.
  • Proficiency in English and Swahili as working languages.
  • Experience working with government and local communities.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.

The contract is for a one-year duration, performance-based, and renewable. The compensation system will be commensurate with experience and appropriate for a field-based project manager.
