The Position
The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), with support from the Irish Embassy Tanzania, is seeking a dynamic and committed Project Officer to join the core implementation team of the Tuinuke Pamoja Project.
The Project Officer will be responsible for on-the-ground planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities. The role requires strong engagement with grassroots groups, Local Government Authorities (LGAs), and other stakeholders to enhance gender equality, promote inclusive participation (women, youth, and persons with disabilities), and ensure high-quality execution of community-level project interventions.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Project Implementation and Support
- Participate actively in day-to-day project activities within the assigned district.
- Provide hands-on support to grassroots groups in implementing gender equality–related activities.
- Support the identification, formation, and strengthening of grassroots groups.
- Contribute to activity delivery across all project components as required.
- Enhance stability, collaboration, and functionality of grassroots groups.
Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination
- Maintain strong working relationships with grassroots groups, LGAs, AKF Tanzania (AKFT), community leaders, and other partners.
- Facilitate collaboration and coordination at district level to optimize project performance.
- Support the coordination of field visits by project staff, donors, and delegates.
Capacity Building and Inclusion
- Support assessment of training needs for grassroots groups.
- Promote gender mainstreaming, PWD inclusion, and youth participation throughout the project cycle.
- Design community mobilization, sensitization, and awareness initiatives on gender equality.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting, and Learning (MERL)
- Support MERL activities, including field-level data collection and verification.
- Assist community groups in reporting implementation progress.
- Support establishment and execution of community-level monitoring and supervision systems.
- Provide timely and accurate updates on project progress to the Project Manager.
- Promptly flag any emerging issues requiring management attention.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Social Studies, Gender, Development Studies, or related fields.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience implementing gender equality activities with grassroots groups, communities, and LGAs.
- At least 2 years’ specific experience working directly with grassroots groups on gender-focused initiatives.
- Experience designing and conducting community mobilization, sensitization, and awareness programs.
- Experience in data collection and utilization for project decision-making.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) in English and Kiswahili.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and team-building skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant applications.
- Understanding of gender, social inclusion, child safeguarding, and community safeguarding principles.
- Sensitivity to cultural contexts within the Dodoma region and ability to adapt approaches accordingly.
- Demonstrated commitment to community engagement and grassroots capacity strengthening.
