Job Description

Wilderness Wayo Limited is a prominent player in the tourism industry in Tanzania, specializing in providing unique and authentic safari experiences. We operate a number of high end camps in the Northern safari circuit in Tanzania. We operate a substantial DMC service, travel shop and activity department. We also run a large community and conservation initiative where positive tourism aids in the betterment to the lives of people and wildlife. Wilderness Wayo Ltd is one of the leading and most respected safari and camp operators in Tanzania.
As the Tanzanian Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Wilderness Wayo Limited, you will play a critical role in overseeing and managing all operational aspects of our company. Reporting directly to the Country Managing Director, you will be based out of our Arusha office and will be required to travel extensively to various camps in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the general operations of all camps across the region.
  • Ensure that camps are operating efficiently, maintaining high standards of service and guest satisfaction.
  • Oversee the smooth operations of the activity department with the assistance of the activity manager.
  • Manage and maintain all equipment used in camp operations, including vehicles, tents, and other infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to identify and implement efficient processes and procedures for camp operations.
  • Work closely with the fleet manager to oversee the company’s vehicle fleet, ensuring proper maintenance and scheduling to support camp
  • Oversee staffing of all camps, including recruitment, training, and performance management, in collaboration with the HR officer.
  • Negotiate and maintain relationships with various government agencies to ensure compliance with regulations and permits required for operating in
  • Collaborate with the accounts department to manage all financial matters related to camp operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and expense.
  • Oversight and understanding of the Children In the Wilderness and all Impact projects and compliance’s of the company.
Qualifications:
  • Preferably, prior experience working in Tanzania, preferably in the tourism
  • Proven 8 year experience in hospitality.
  • Ability to speak Kiswahili will be an advantage.
  • Proven leadership skills and cool approach to handling difficult situations.
  • Ability to think quickly and make decisions under pressure.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Tertiary education diploma or certificate in Hospitality advantageous.
