IUCN Tanzania manages a diverse project portfolio valued at USD 23M, implemented across 9 regions in mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. These projects support integrated actions in nature conservation, climate resilience, community well-being, and sustainable economic development.

The Finance Grants Assistant will be based in Dar es Salaam with frequent travel to project sites.
Job Description
Specific Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Senior Grants Officer, the Finance Grants Assistant will support the grants and finance team in drafting, overseeing, and monitoring the entire grant management cycle. All work must comply with IUCN and donor financial rules and procedures, including due diligence, pre-award assessments, disbursements, reporting, and risk compliance.
Major Responsibilities
1. Grant Management System Development
- Support the development and maintenance of a comprehensive grants management tracker.
- Ensure consistent use of IUCN grants management tools, adapting them to country-specific needs.
- Assist in due diligence for subgrantee selection, including technical and financial capacity assessments.
- Ensure program and support teams understand donor compliance requirements and IUCN procedures.
- Contribute to capacity-building of sub-grantees and project teams.
2. Grants Compliance Management
- Assist in reviewing agreements, amendments, cost extensions, and no-cost extensions.
- Support compliance reviews of expenses and contribute to financial report preparation.
- Prepare quarterly budget variance reports for the IUCN Tanzania portfolio.
- Review subgrantee financial reports for compliance and accuracy.
- Conduct final compliance checks against donor-approved budgets.
3. Documentation and Communication
- Track and document all grant-related information following IUCN guidelines.
- Maintain updated files both electronically and physically.
- Facilitate proper documentation of Implementing Partner (IP) records.
- Communicate important updates to supervisors, colleagues, and partners.
- Provide weekly updates and upcoming plans every end of the week.
- Keep the Grants Folder up to date with all financial information.
4. Other Duties
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Strong computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet tools).
Work Experience
- Minimum 2 years experience in grants management, organizational assessments, or systems reviews.
- Strong expertise in grant-funded project implementation and reporting.
- Highly motivated, proactive, innovative, and results-driven.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Language Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English and Swahili.
