Job Title: Terminal Operations Supervisor

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Terminal Operations Supervisor to ensure the efficient and safe handling of all cargo operations within the terminal. The ideal candidate will manage and motivate the operations team to meet performance goals, optimize terminal efficiency, and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

• Manage, motivate, and guide all operational team members to meet terminal goals.
• Lead supervisors in vessel and yard operations, including cargo stowage, delivery, and horizontal transport.
• Coordinate terminal planning to ensure vessels meet berthing and sailing deadlines.
• Oversee general cargo, RoRo, and silo operations, ensuring proper handling and storage of commodities.
• Liaise with the engineering department to maximize equipment availability and effectiveness.
• Ensure proper equipment allocation (cranes, forklifts, silo systems) for each operation to achieve productivity targets.

Performance and Team Management

• Set clear priorities, goals, and work structures for operational teams.
• Monitor and assess individual, team, and divisional performance against set objectives.
• Identify and implement performance management processes, including goal setting, monitoring, and feedback.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and training to operational staff to enhance performance and safety awareness.

Coordination and Communication

• Maintain effective communication with operations, engineering, planning, and vessel supervision teams.
• Liaise with shipping lines, vessel agents, Customs, Port Authorities, and Pilots regarding vessel movements and operational issues.
• Provide daily briefings and operational updates to the Operations Manager.
• Coordinate planning activities through direct and radio communication to ensure seamless operations.

Safety and Compliance

• Enforce compliance with safety regulations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and company policies.
• Ensure clean-up and berth readiness before each vessel operation.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at operational excellence and risk mitigation.

Reporting and Analysis

• Maintain detailed records of operational performance and incidents.
• Analyze past operations to identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements.
• Provide daily and periodic reports on terminal performance and resource utilization.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Shipping & Logistics, Port Management, or a related field.
• Certification in Rigging and Lifting Operations is an added advantage.

Experience

• 4–6 years of experience in port terminal or logistics operations, preferably handling general cargo, dry bulk, RoRo, or silo operations.
• Proficiency in terminal operating systems and scheduling software (advantageous).
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and in challenging environments.
• Familiarity with cargo handling procedures, safety protocols, and coordination with vessel officers and logistics providers.
• Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
