The Programme, which provides volunteering, internships, grassroots leadership training and virtual mentorship opportunities, aims to inspire a new generation of environmental advocates and leaders, especially young women, in their countries and communities to actively contribute to youth and community-led conservation and help drive positive change.

  1. 1. MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT

WWF   recently   commenced   implementation   of   a   three-year   project   focused   on Accelerating the Implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) through Community-Led Conservation. The project aims to put Community-Led Conservation at the heart of GBF Implementation in five countries by ensuring full and effective participation of Indigenous people and local communicates (IP&LCs) and  Youthin the development/revision of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and the implementation and monitoring of conservation activities at site and landscape level. The project will also advocate for new and additional funding for biodiversity through National Biodiversity Finance Plans (NBFPs) that facilitate greater access to finance for IP&LCs. Experiences and lessons learned in the five countries will be leveraged and amplified to galvanize action and advocacy for ambitious and inclusive NBSAPs and NBFPs in the wider sub-regions and globally working closely with WWF’s Regional and Global Policy and Advocacy Teams and the Public Sector Partnerships teams.

The main purpose of this internship is to assist the Senior Manager of GBF-CLC  to coordinate the development and implementation of a global Youth action plan of GBF- CLC and specifically to be the link with strategic youth networks such as the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) which provide WWF the vehicle to deliver youth centered GBF-CLC project results.

It is expected that the Internship will be one year and located in the WWF Tanzania Country Office (one of the implementing countries) of the project.

  1. 2. MAJOR FUNCTIONS

1.Technical advice on Youth engagement on GBF-CLC

  • Assist in preparing project ideas, concept, guidance, position papers, action plans and lessons for WWF youth engagement through the GBF-CLC project at country, regional and global level.
  1. 2. Assisting in  coordinating  the  co-development  and  implementation  of  the

Global Youth strategy of the GBF-CLC project

  • Assist in identifying, coordinating the negotiation, signing and implementation of an agreement between GBF-CLC and youth networks starting with GYBN.
  • Support the co-development of quarterly and monthly action plans and reports of the partnerships between WWF and selected Youth networks on the GBF-CLC project.
  • Support convening physical or online coordination meetings with the youth networks connecting through the GBF-CLC project.
  • Support the knowledge management and communications about the WWF-Youth partnership on the GBF-CLC project.
  • Assist overall project administration of the GBF-CLC
  • Assist in planning, convening and documenting global GBF-CLC internal and external meetings and events.
  • Assist in coordinating team logistics.
  1. 3. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Be the focal person on global Youth coordination for the project
  • Keep updated knowledge systems for the project
  • Be the focal person for coordinating administration of the project at global level
  1. 4. PROFILE Required Qualifications
  • A graduate with at least a Degree in Wildlife, Forestry, Environment, Climate or Social Studies
  • At least 1 year experience in engaging with youth initiatives and networks
  • At Least 1 year experience engaging in project management and coordination
  • Familiar with the Global Biodiversity Framework

  1. 2. MAJOR FUNCTIONS

The intern will assist in the implementation of conservation projects and contribute to WWF Tanzania’s mission of protecting the country’s rich natural resources. S/he will have practical experience in biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource management, and community engagement and inclusion in conservation.

The intern will be responsible for assisting the conservation teams in the implementation of innovative and dynamic environmental education and outreach activities in supporting the management and execution of conservation activities

  1. 3. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide support to the wildlife and forest teams in planning for conservation initiatives
  • Assist the wildlife and forests teams in supervising and managing sustainable natural resources in the specific villages and wildlife management areas
  • Assist conservation teams in ideation and implementation of inclusive conservation in the geographical and thematic areas identified for implementation
  • Work with the communications and conservation teams in ideation and implementation of youth engagement initiatives
  • Provide support to  conservation  team  in  the  management  and  mentoring  of environmental clubs and tree nurseries in schools
  • In collaboration with communication personnel liaise with Community and document the impacts related to livelihood investments done within respective landscapes
  • Provide support in activity report writing and provide data inputs to WWF technical progress reports (TPR)
  • Perform other activities relating to conservation as defined by WWF Tanzania Country Office and supervisor
  • Maintain a good image of the organization to ensure that WWF remains among the most respected in the country and beyond,
  • Produce performance reports quarterly and at the end of the internship period for assessment.
  • Travel for field assignments in areas where WWF Tanzania has projects

Supervisor Role:

  • Introduce and orient intern to staff, stakeholders and overall work environment,
  • Provide guidance,  coaching  and  counselling  to  the  intern  on  the  job  role  and competencies to be demonstrated.
  • Produce an intern performance assessment report at the end of the internship period.
  1. 4. PROFILE Required Qualifications
  • A diploma certificate or higher on a relevant subject (e.g., wildlife management, environmental  science  Management,  Community  Development,  Environmental Science or similar qualification)

Required Skills and Competencies.

  • Willingness and ability to frequent travels within the project area
  • Good social and communication skills
  • Fluent in Swahili and English, good English writing skills
  • Organizational and time management skills required to meet deadlines and, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous work experience in similar projects/activities may not be necessary
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to safeguarding in a local and international context.
  • Demonstrates ability and  willingness  to  work  in  a  diverse,  multicultural,  and intergenerational environment that is anti-racist and respectful of others.
