HME Reliability Engineer – Expatriate (01 Vacancy)

Position Overview

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a highly competent HME Reliability Engineer to join and strengthen our engineering team. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role is responsible for ensuring underground Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) and associated systems consistently achieve required levels of reliability, availability, and safety.

The position emphasizes proactive maintenance strategies, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement to reduce equipment failures, optimize performance, and extend asset life. The Reliability Engineer will work collaboratively with maintenance, operations, engineering, planning teams, and OEM partners to deliver sustainable reliability improvements across mobile equipment and fixed plant assets.

Key Responsibilities

Reliability & Maintenance Strategy

  • Implement and optimize asset reliability strategies, including Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), Preventive Maintenance Optimization, and Predictive Maintenance.
  • Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs such as Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM), vibration analysis, oil analysis, and thermography.
  • Develop and maintain condition monitoring programs (vibration, ultrasound, temperature, pressure, and fluid sampling).
  • Develop critical equipment lists and reliability risk maps.

Failure Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for major and recurring equipment failures using tools such as:
    • 5 Whys
    • Fishbone Analysis
    • Pareto Analysis
    • Fault Tree Analysis
    • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Conduct FMEA studies to identify failure modes, assess risk, and prioritize mitigation actions.
  • Identify chronic and repetitive failures and drive long-term corrective solutions.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Recommend engineering and design changes to improve safety, reliability, and performance.

Data Analysis & Performance Monitoring

  • Monitor and trend key equipment parameters to detect early signs of failure.
  • Analyze maintenance and operational data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Track, analyze, and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
    • Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
    • Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
    • Equipment availability
    • Maintenance backlog
  • Ensure timely reporting and follow-up on abnormal conditions.

Maintenance Systems & Asset Management

  • Maintain accurate equipment history and reliability records within the CMMS (e.g., SAP).
  • Review and optimize Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks, frequencies, and work instructions.
  • Develop Bills of Material (BOMs), critical spares lists, and reliability-based inventory recommendations.
  • Improve PM compliance and quality through audits, coaching, and technical support.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide technical support to maintenance and operations teams.
  • Participate in daily and weekly planning and reliability meetings.
  • Support capital projects with reliability input, including design reviews, risk assessments, and lifecycle costing.
  • Coordinate with OEMs, contractors, and vendors for specialist diagnostics, technical support, and warranty claims.
  • Ensure compliance with OEM standards, site procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Evaluate and recommend new reliability technologies and tools for implementation.

Qualification Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Reliability Engineering.
  • Professional certification in one or more of the following is an advantage:
    • Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM)
    • Vibration Analysis (CAT I / CAT II)
    • Thermography
    • Other condition monitoring disciplines

Experience and Skills Requirements

  • Minimum of 3–7 years’ experience in mobile equipment maintenance and reliability engineering.
  • Previous experience in underground mining or a similar heavy industrial environment is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in statistical and analytical tools for reliability and maintenance data analysis.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing maintenance strategies that improve equipment availability and reduce operating costs.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
