Position Details

  • Title: Senior Safety Officer

  • Reports to: HSSE Manager
  • Contract Type: Full Time

Job Description: Key Responsibilities

The Senior Safety Officer will be responsible for:

  • Promoting a “Zero Harm” safety culture across the mine site.
  • Conducting 80% of planned workplace inspections as per the site HSE activities schedule.
  • Ensuring 100% HSE monitoring on non-conformances, such as alcohol tests and roadblocks.
  • Driving compliance with Tanzania OSHA regulations and other safety lead indicators.
  • Conducting 100% of investigations for all reported incidents and ensuring the closure of corrective actions.
  • Revising site management plans and suggesting changes based on site requirements.
  • Conducting weekly safety meetings for all departments and contractors.
  • Preparing written HSE reports, statistics, and presentations related to HSE performance.
  • Driving the successful delivery of BGC tools and programs, such as implementing the use of “Take 5” and Hazard ID reporting.
  • Monitoring workplace activities to ensure workers comply with company policies.
  • Visiting work areas daily to advise workers on safe practices and stop any unsafe acts.
  • Assisting in the implementation of Job Safety Analysis and inspecting job site activities during hazardous work.
  • Maintaining emergency preparedness and response in accordance with Buckreef standards.
  • Developing the Mine Emergency Response Team.
  • Assisting with the development and review of Safe Work Procedures (SWP) in each department.
  • Fostering good relations with the company’s communities of interest.
  • Enforcing safety leadership by ensuring managers and seniors meet their KPIs.
  • Implementing the Safety Management system (ISO 45001).
  • Performing any other related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Education

Candidates must have:

  • A Bachelor of Science (BSC) in Environmental / Occupational Health/SHEMTRAC.
  • NEBOSH certification.
  • ICAM investigation or Tap Root certification.
  • ISO 45001:2018 Integrated Safety Management system certification.
  • Safety lead audit certification.

Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in open-pit and underground mining operations.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role is preferred.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of mining methods and equipment.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with national and international health and safety regulations in the mining industry.
  • Computer literacy.

Other Requirements

  • Physically fit and able to work in remote environments.
  • Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, or in a rotation.
