SNV is implementing a four-years WASH Systems for Health Programme (WS4H), funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), which aims to support the Tanzanian governments to strengthen the systems that ensures reliable, resilient and inclusive WASH services with the ambition to contribute to ending preventable deaths of mothers, children and infants.

Job Description

The senior WASH intern will focus on supporting the WS4H Programme with specific tasks across several key areas of implementation including admin and logistics, technical support and documentation. The WS4H Programme will be implemented at both the national level and in 3 regions / 6 districts (Arusha Regional – Meru and Longido districts; Simiyu Region – Bariadi DC and Itilima districts; Dodoma Region – Bahi and Mpwapwa districts).  The intern will provide both overall admin support to the whole project, and specific technical and coordination support to the Arusha specific interventions.

Key Responsibility:

Administration and Logistics support

  • Day-to-day support role for internal project coordination such as travel plans, procurement requests, meeting logistics and mpesa registrations for all WS4H team members
  • To successfully support the team through organising workshops including preparation of letters, venue and travel booking, timely delivery of administrative and financial processes (partner DSA) during workshops and meetings and overall interaction with project partners.
  • Direct coordination support for all interventions in Arusha region

Technical support

  • To successfully support the WS4H team with the project implementation under the supervision of the WASH Advisor including follow ups on planned activities.
  • To contribute to WASH technical discussions and support the development of WASH materials
  • Support day-to-day field assignments as required
  • Support team with documentation of the programme including photo taking, minute writing and record keeping of project files
  • Support monitoring and evaluation tasks of the programme, including data collection coordination, analysis and presentation of findings.

Qualifications

  • Public health/environmental science/WASH related degree or a related field
  • Practical experience of WASH interventions in rural areas and/or in health care facilities is an added advantage
  • Good understanding of the WASH sector particularly peri-urban/rural sanitation issues in Tanzania
  • Experience of coordinating meetings, handling logistics for participants and preparing letters
  • Proficiency in key Microsoft office software package (Excel, MS word, PPT) is mandatory
  • Experience of writing reports, developing meeting budgets and following up procurement requests
  • 2 years of working experiences in mentioned fields
  • Experience working with NGOs is an added advantage
  • Innovative, entrepreneurial, business oriented.
  • Knowledge on climate resilience/GEDSI issues is an advantage
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.

Functional Competencies

  • Good written and oral communication skills in English
  • Good planning and organizational skills which will enhance multi-tasking, analytical thinking, and ability to summarise key points.
  • Good understanding of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene issues in Tanzania
  • Experience of working with data and data management tools
  • Experience of working on administrative duties, dealing with payments and meeting logistics
  • Adaptability to adjust to changes in workplans by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment
  • Culturally sensitive and able to work in diverse environments particularly with senior Government Officials.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
