EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) is inviting applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians to be considered for employment to fill vacant posts for the School of Dentistry on contract basis of two years (2 years) as illustrated herein below;
- 1. DENTAL SURGEONS – 2 POSTS
- a. Entry Qualifications
Holder of Doctor of Dental Surgeons from a recognized Institution who have successfully completed one-year Internship and has been registered by the Medical Council of Tanganyika as a Dental Officer with valid practicing license.
- Duties and Responsibilities
- To provide routine and emergency Dental health services for in-patients and out patients;
- To prepare patients for procedure or surgeries, and carry out postoperative follow-ups;
iii. To participate in ward rounds, patient presentation, journal clubs, and provides appropriate management to patients;
- To participate in preparation of medical reports;
- To participate in research activities within the respective department vi. To participate in outreach programs organized by the institution;
vii. To participate in Continuing Education Programs for Medical Personnel; and viii. To perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
c. Salary Scale: PMGSS 8
- MEDICAL SPECIALIST II – (ANAESTHESIOLOGIST) – 1 POST
- a. Entry Qualifications
Holder of Master of Medicine Degree (MMed) in Anesthesiology, must be a holder of a Doctor of Medicine, registered with the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT), completed one-year Internship and have a valid practicing license.
- Duties and responsibilities:
- i. Examine Surgical maxillofacial patients and ensure they are well prepared for surgery
- ii. Monitor vital signs during surgery
iii. Manage optimize surgical patient and manage medical problems occurring during surgery
- iv. Discuss risks and benefits of General anesthesia with the patient and relat
- v. Review maxillofacial patients pre- and post-anesthe
- vi. Use intravenous and intramuscular methods to administer sedative agents for procedures requiring conscious sedation.
vii. Provide general anesthesia to maxillofacial patient and monitor their vital signs during and after anesthesia.
viii. Perform nasal and submental intubation for maxillofacial surgery
- ix. Supervise patients and monitor their pain medications before, during and after surgery; offset adverse complications or reactions; record amount and type of anesthesia as well as the patients’ conditions throughout procedures
- x. Determine risk during medical procedures by taking medical histories, examining patients and ordering diagnostic procedures like x-rays and laboratory tests; discuss with other healthcare professionals about the method and type of anesthetic to make patients numb to pain
- xi. Provide and sustain airway management and life support during emergency surgery
xii. Monitor patients’ post-surgery and determine when they are stabilized enough to move to another room or go home
xiii. Manage anesthesiologic services and coordinate with other professionals to formulate procedures and plans; direct the duties of medical technicians, nurses and other healthcare support staff
c. Salary Scale: PMGSS 11
- 3. ANAESTHETIST (ANESTHESIA) – 1 POST
- a. Entry Qualifications
Holder of Bachelor of science in nurse anesthesia, must be registered with Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC), plus successful completion of one year internship and must have a valid practicing license.
- Duties and responsibilities;
- Prepare operating room with necessary anesthetics and appropriate equipment for administration of anesthesia
- Assemble machine for administering gas, selecting, obtaining and administering pre-anaesthetic medications which may include sedatives/hypnotics/anxiolytics, narcotics, medications that decrease gastric acidity, medications that enhance gastric emptying, steroids, antimuscarinics, ant sialagogues, antihypertensives and preoperative intravenous fluids
iii. To supports life functions during the period in which anesthesia is administered, including induction and intubation procedures.
- Provides general anesthesia, regional and monitored anesthesia care for Oral and maxillofacial surgery patients.
- Monitors and manages patients’ vital functions, care and pain during and after surgery and/or procedure
- Cares for patients requiring pain management, anticoagulation and airway management services
vii. Provides anesthesia for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to patient undergoing interventional radiology treatment such as sclerotherapy and other
non-surgical interventional procedures requiring anesthesia and/or sedation viii. Conduct postoperative follow-up.
- Performing and documenting pre-anaesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, to include obtaining an appropriate health history and conducting a physical screening assessment
- Selecting, obtaining and administering pre-anaesthetic medications which may include sedatives/hypnotics/anxiolytics, narcotics, medications that decrease gastric acidity, medications that enhance gastric emptying, steroids, antimuscarinics, ant sialagogues, antihypertensives and preoperative intravenous fluids.
Salary Scale: PMGSS 6

for Universities (TCU) – {Degree Level} or National Accreditation Council for
Technical Education (NACTE) – {Diploma Level} or National Examination
Council of Tanzania (NECTA) – {Secondary Education}.
