Youth Work Patron Internship – Rift Valley Children’s Fund

The Rift Valley Children’s Fund (RVCF) works to eliminate poverty and improve the lives of marginalized children and families in the Oldeani area of northern Tanzania. Our goal is to ensure that all children and families in this region have the opportunity to lead healthy, secure, and fulfilling lives. Through four programmatic areas – a children’s home (Rift Valley Children’s Village – RVCV), a health clinic, educational partnerships with local schools, and an economic opportunity program – we endeavor to provide a community of 10,000 with all the tools, systems and opportunities they need to find a path out of generational poverty.

Our Child welfare team  serves as role models and mentors to over 40 teenagers living at the Rift Valley  Children’s Village, helping guide them in their development at a critical stage in their lives. This internship will be focused primarily on working with the male adolescents of RVCV to assist and build our child welfare capacity. This role will provide direct support to the Social Work department by targeting our children’s core needs. All activities will be aimed to support RVCV teenagers  through formal and informal mentoring and by providing a positive intellectual, emotional, and social  living environment for them to develop as good citizens and to position them for future personal,  educational and professional success.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:   

Develop relationships, through counseling and mentorship, with the male teenagers at RVCV;

Live in a house with the teenage boys and offer supervision of activities and support child care;

Develop and supervise team-building and reflective activities for all boys teenagers and young adults at RVCV;

Supervise activities for the at RVCV in the evenings and on weekends;

Assist the Social Work team in implementing and enforcing discipline;

Ensuring high health and safety standards and requirements are observed within the house;

Knowing each child personally and being concerned for their academic, social, and personal development;

Liaising with other staff regarding each pupil;

Lend a sympathetic ear to children with problems and provide counseling services.

Qualifications

A holder in either Diploma in guidance and Counseling / Social Work /Sociology /Education/ Community Development/ Health related courses or should hold any certification on child care issues.

Fluent in English and Swahili

Eager to learn new skills.

Problem solving and decision making skills.

Experience in a similar role will be an added advantage.

This is a patron position so we are looking for a male candidate

This position is open to Tanzanian nationals only

Benefits

This Position is unpaid,

RVCF will provide health coverage for the term of service.

RVCF will cover the costs of pre-approved transport to and from RVCV.-  Transportation expenses must be approved by the Managing Director.

Full Room and Board at the RVCV, including your own bedroom and bathroom, three full meals per day, housekeeping and laundry assistance and transport to Karatu, as available.

One month of annual leave per year commitment, plus an additional 2 vacation days  accumulated each month of work.
