Jobs in Dodoma, Tanzania, With a population of 765,179, Dodoma City (Jiji Kuu la Dodoma in Swahili) serves as both the administrative center of the Dodoma Municipal Council and the Dodoma Region. Tanzania’s government declared in 1974 that the country’s capital, Dar es Salaam, would be relocated to Dodoma in order to centralize government functions and address social and economic concerns. In 1996, it attained official capital status.
A large portion of Dodoma’s original plan was not completed until the twenty-first century. The new State House in Dodoma was officially opened by the national government, led by President Samia Suluhu, in May 2023. This momentous occasion marked the official transfer of government functions to the city. As a result, Dodoma continued to host the state residence, Ikulu, and a number of other government operations, while Dar es Salaam continued to be Tanzania’s economic and marine metropolis.
Since then, Dodoma has developed into a major hub for the regional economy, acting as a crossroads for four trunk highways that connect the major economic hubs of the nation: Dar es Salaam to the east, Singida to the west, Arusha to the north, and Iringa to the south.
