Position Summary
The Assistant Accountant will play a key role in supporting the finance department in day-to-day accounting tasks, financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance. The ideal candidate must have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to digital tools and cloud- based systems. You will also be expected to manage structured digital workflows, collaborate via cloud platforms, and ensure financial data integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing and maintaining accurate financial records and reports.
- Handle daily bookkeeping tasks including data entry, invoice processing, and bank reconciliations.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely settlements and follow-ups.
- Support monthly and annual closing processes.
- Prepare and submit statutory returns (e.g., VAT, PAYE, NSSF, WCF) in a timely manner.
- Maintain digital accounting files and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Assist in budget preparation and expenditure tracking.
- Liaise with auditors, tax consultants, and external stakeholders as needed.
- Prepare financial summaries and reports using Google Sheets and/or accounting software.
- Create, manage, and structure cloud-based financial folders and shared drives (e.g., Google Drive) with proper access controls.
- Design and manage mul4-tab Google Sheets for tracking payment requests, bank transactions, and receipt records.
- Upload, organize, and hyperlink suppor4ng documents (e.g., EFD receipts) in shared folders and sheets.
- Perform data validation and error-checking in financial entries, including updating entries and adding audit notes.
- Follow detailed digital instruc4ons and execute tasks independently with minimal supervision.
- Ensure confidentality, accuracy, and traceability of all records and uploads.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in an accounting or finance role.
- Proficiency in Google Sheets and general computer literacy is essential.
- Experience with modern accoun4ng software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books).
- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian tax regula4ons and statutory compliance.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentality and handle sensi4ve information responsibly.
- Demonstrated ability to manage cloud-based document workflows and collaborate digitally.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Skills (Added Advantage)
- Experience in the tourism or hospitality industry.
- Familiarity with cloud-based file sharing and collaboration tools (e.g., Google Drive, Slack, Trello).
- Hands-on experience in digital task management, spreadsheet automation, and document hyperlinking.
- CPA (T) qualification or progress toward it is a plus.
