Job Title: Assistant Lodge Manager
Location: Olerai Lodge, – Shadows of Africa (Arusha)
Department: Lodge Operations
Reports To: Lodge Manager / Operations Director
Employment Type: Full-time
Position Summary:
Shadows of Africa (Olerai Lodge) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Assistant Lodge Manager to support the daily operations and ensure an exceptional guest experience. The successful candidate will work closely with the Lodge Manager to oversee staff, maintain high standards of service, and ensure smooth coordination between departments including housekeeping, kitchen, front office, and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Lodge Manager in overseeing day-to-day operations and ensuring operational excellence.
- Supervise and coordinate staff across departments, ensuring all teams deliver consistent, high-quality service.
- Handle guest relations, including check-in/check-out procedures, guest feedback, and conflict resolution.
- Monitor staff schedules, timekeeping, and performance in line with lodge policies.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and training of lodge staff.
- Oversee inventory control and ordering of lodge supplies and amenities.
- Assist in budgeting, financial reporting, and cost control efforts.
- Maintain strong communication between departments to promote seamless operations.
- Step in for the Lodge Manager when absent, maintaining operational continuity.
- Coordinate with marketing and sales teams regarding guest packages, special events, or VIP visits.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in lodge or hotel management, preferably in a supervisory or assistant management role.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong guest service orientation with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with hospitality software and front desk systems.
- Fluent in English and Kiswahili; additional languages are an advantage.
Education:
A degree or diploma in one or more of the following fields is highly preferred:
- Hospitality Management
- Lodge or Hotel Management
- Business Administration (with hospitality focus)
- Tourism Management
- Environmental or Eco-Lodge Management
- Any related field in travel and tourism or guest services
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience in eco-lodges or remote hospitality environments.
- Understanding of sustainable tourism practices.
- Ability to live and work in a lodge environment for extended periods.
- High emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and strong leadership ethics.
