JOB DESCRIPTION – CLEANING MANAGER
Job Title: Cleaning Manager
Location: Olerai Lodge, – Shadows of Africa (Arusha)
Department: Housekeeping & Maintenance Reports To: Lodge Manager / Operations Manager Employment Type: Full-time
Position Summary:
Shadows of Africa (Olerai Lodge) is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Cleaning Manager to oversee all cleaning and housekeeping operations at the lodge. The ideal candidate will ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation across all guest rooms, common areas, and staff facilities, while leading and supervising a team of housekeeping staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, and coordinate daily activities of the housekeeping team.
- Develop and implement cleaning schedules and routines in line with lodge standards.
- Ensure all guest rooms and public areas are cleaned, maintained, and presented to the highest quality standards.
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and linen; place orders as necessary while minimizing waste.
- Perform regular inspections of guest rooms, public spaces, laundry, and back-of- house areas to ensure quality control.
- Coordinate with maintenance for any repairs or issues identified during cleaning.
- Oversee laundry operations and ensure proper handling and cleaning of linens and uniforms.
- Manage housekeeping staff schedules, leave requests, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and hygiene standards.
- Handle guest requests and complaints related to housekeeping services with professionalism and efficiency.
- Maintain proper documentation and reports related to cleaning activities, stock control, and staffing.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a housekeeping supervisory or managerial role, preferably in a hospitality or lodge setting.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Working knowledge of health, safety, and hygiene standards.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Proficiency in English and Kiswahili; additional languages are an asset.
Education:
A diploma or degree in any of the following fields is highly desirable:
- Hospitality Management
- Housekeeping Management
- Hotel and Lodging Management
- Environmental Health
- Facilities Management
- Business Administration (with hospitality or facility specialization)
- Any other relevant training or certification in cleaning operations or occupational health and safety
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience working in eco-lodges, boutique hotels, or remote hospitality environments.
- A proactive, hands-on attitude with the ability to train and motivate staff.
- Strong commitment to sustainability, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction.
