Environment and Climate Action Senior Advisor At World Vision – Tanzania, Dar es salaam – December 2025

Role Purpose

The Senior Advisor provides technical leadership to Field Offices (FOs) across East Africa. The goal is to integrate climate action into development, emergency response, and advocacy work. You will be the regional focal point for ensuring that World Vision’s operations reduce their environmental footprint while building the resilience of vulnerable children and communities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Support and Quality Assurance

• Roll out the Environmental Stewardship Policy across the East Africa region.

• Provide “hands-on” support through frequent field visits (up to 60% travel) to design and implement ESCA projects.

• Conduct training of trainers (ToF) on core project models and climate action approaches.

2. Resource Mobilization and Grants

• Work with the Grant Acquisition and Management (GAM) team to identify funding opportunities.

• Lead the design and writing of grant applications for major donors such as ECHO, UN agencies, and Bilaterals.

• Develop “Capability Statements” and business cases to position WV as a leader in climate action.

3. Engagement and Communities of Practice (CoP)

• Lead the regional Community of Practice, fostering learning and innovation among field staff.

• Represent the East Africa Region in global working groups and external climate summits.

• Broker partnerships with think tanks, donors, and other NGOs.

4. The Nexus Approach

• Strengthen the link between Humanitarian, Development, and Peacebuilding initiatives.

• Analyze how climate change and resource scarcity (water, land) contribute to conflict and population movement.

• Work across sectors to find solutions that prevent conflict and violence related to scarce resources.

Qualifications and Experience

• Education: Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences or Climate Change. A degree in International Development or Program Management is a plus.

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years in climate change/environmental stewardship, specifically in resource mobilization (grant writing) and program implementation.

• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of NGO environmental programming, carbon footprint reduction, and international legal conventions on climate.

• Faith: As an organization inspired by Christian faith, spiritual maturity and alignment with WV’s values are required.

• Language: Excellent English is required; basic French is a significant advantage.
