UMATI, established in 1959, a member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), is a leading non-profit Association providing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Information and services in Tanzania. The Association has a long history of leadership in SRH programs in the country including pioneering in SRH and Family planning (FP) services, SRHR programs for young people, integrated clinics, and Community-based service delivery approaches. Accredited by IPPF In 2019 UMATI is governed by a well-established volunteer structure.

Job title: Lab Technicians (2)
Reporting to: Clinic In charge
Location: Songea and Mbinga
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receiving, labeling and analyzing samples (blood, toxic, tissue etc.)
- Collects, processes, and handles blood and/or other biological specimens according to established procedures; instructs patients in the proper collection of samples.
- Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis, as assigned; conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid; performs blood counts using microscope.
- Conducts blood tests for transfusion purposes; may draw blood from patient’s finger, ear lobe, or vein observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.
- Develops and maintains cell/tissue cultures for testing purposes, as appropriate; isolates and identifies specimens, using advanced laboratory techniques.
- Performs quality control on test results, ensuring validity and accuracy.
- Performs calibration and troubleshooting on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy.
- Keeps records and reports on results according to established procedures.
- Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Examine body fluids and tissues and analyse body fluids, such as blood, urine, and tissue samples for abnormal chemical levels, cells or bacteria.
- Operate laboratory equipment, such as microscopes and automated cell counters.
- Use automated equipment that analyses multiple samples at the same time.
- Organize and store all laboratory reagents according to safety instructions
- Record and manage all data
- Prepare reports based on findings
- Compile daily, monthly and annual report
Qualification
- Bachelor degree in laboratory science
- Demonstrate skills in information systems and advanced Microsoft office application
- Experience in logistics/supply chain management of public Health commodities is desirable
- Valid License of practice
- Excellent communication skills
