Job Purpose

The Manager – Trade Finance (Financial Institutions & Institutional Banking) serves as the focal point for leading, managing, and optimizing working capital strategies and trade finance solution structuring. The role acts as the subject matter expert in Trade Finance across the organization, ensuring effective management of trade-related assets, risk mitigation, and stakeholder engagement.

Main Responsibilities

1. Business Direction

• Implement strategies to optimize the bank’s working capital solutions, including import/export finance, accounts receivables, payables, and stock financing.
• Ensure consistency and accuracy of management reports and dashboards related to the Trade Finance portfolio.
• Oversee origination and structuring of trade finance deals (e.g., letters of credit, guarantees, and other instruments) for Financial Institutions and Institutional Banking clients.
• Manage and monitor Trade Finance assets and utilization across sectors within the FI & Institutional Banking portfolio.
• Support analysis of clients’ cash conversion cycles and identify opportunities to improve working capital efficiency.
• Collaborate with clients’ finance, procurement, and sales teams to enhance payment terms and optimize cash flow.

2. Risk Management

• Support risk assessment and identify mitigants for credit, currency, and counterparty risks associated with working capital and trade finance.
• Provide data-driven insights to support management and board decision-making.
• Develop and implement policies that reduce financial exposure in Trade Finance activities.
• Monitor the FI & Institutional Banking portfolios and assess market dynamics that may affect asset quality.
• Coordinate with the Treasury team to ensure adequate liquidity for ongoing trade finance operations.

3. Stakeholder Management

• Manage relationships with correspondent banks and financial institutions to secure competitive trade finance facilities.
• Serve as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders on all matters related to Trade Finance for FI & Institutional Banking portfolios.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment in executing business strategies.
• Liaise with auditors, regulators, and legal teams to ensure compliance with relevant rules and guidelines.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong knowledge of trade finance instruments and structured trade finance solutions.
• Proficiency in financial analysis, forecasting, reporting, and credit risk assessment methodologies.
• Familiarity with emerging technologies and digitization trends in trade finance.
• Understanding of global market dynamics affecting international trade.
• Sound knowledge of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) rules governing trade finance instruments and related banking regulations.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• High compliance awareness and risk control mindset.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related fields.
• Master’s Degree in Business Studies – an added advantage.
• Relevant Trade Finance certifications – an added advantage.
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Trade Finance or related fields, with leadership experience in a medium to large organization.
