Position Overview

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking an experienced HME Maintenance Manager (Expatriate) to lead underground (UG) mobile equipment maintenance operations. The role is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all UG mobile maintenance activities, ensuring safety, reliability, and operational efficiency in compliance with company policies and industry standards.

This position also focuses on workforce development through training, coaching, and competency assessments to continuously improve maintenance performance. The successful candidate will ensure maintenance activities maximize business value both in the short and long term.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Lead and manage the underground mobile maintenance team to ensure timely and effective maintenance execution.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and ensure full compliance with safety standards, procedures, and regulations.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Maintenance Management

  • Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for UG mobile equipment.
  • Oversee maintenance planning, scheduling, spare parts inventory, and procurement to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to underground mobile machinery.
  • Monitor equipment performance and establish KPIs to improve reliability, availability, and efficiency.
  • Ensure effective utilization of the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).

Coordination & Continuous Improvement

  • Coordinate with mining operations to plan major repairs with minimal impact on production.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, control costs, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Stay current with technological advancements and implement industry best practices.
  • Provide maintenance input and oversight for new projects and construction activities.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control for all maintenance-related activities.

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and prepare reports for management review.
  • Investigate maintenance-related incidents and ensure follow-up on corrective actions.
  • Provide structured feedback to OEMs to support equipment and operational improvements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the UG Manager.

People Management

  • Manage maintenance personnel performance, training, mentoring, and development.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment.

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in Heavy Equipment, Mining, or Safety.

Experience & Skills Requirements

  • Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in underground mobile equipment maintenance within the mining industry.
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong understanding of underground mining operations, safety standards, and maintenance systems (e.g., SAP).
  • Proven experience working with OEM equipment; Sandvik experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and a positive safety culture.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Sound understanding of budgeting, cost control, and performance management.
  • Innovative mindset with a focus on reliability improvement and cost efficiency.
  • Team-oriented approach with the ability to develop and motivate diverse teams.
