Position Title: A&K Philanthropy Field Coordinator – Tanzania

Department: Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy (AKP)

Accountable To: AKP Coordinator & Camp Manager

Location: Sanctuary Swala Camp, Tarangire National Park

Position Summary

The Tanzania AKP Field Coordinator person will provide ground management and coordination of projects based at Tarangire National Park. Including management of projects progress, handling guest experience, field reports, financial reports, training, donor communication, and related PR & media.

AKP’s mission is to positively impact the lives and livelihoods in the communities where we carry our guests. We do this through strategic investments in four areas, collectively referred to as the four pillars of AKP: Education, Health Care, Community Enterprise Development and Conservation.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Project Management

  • Contribute to the development of new guest experiences for A&K philanthropy (AKP) projects based at Tarangire.
  • Engagement with community leaders, community members and other project stakeholders for project designing and implementation.
  • Report on individual project progress in a consistent format, including key achievements, challenges, and any red flags as and when they arise.
  • Develop and sustain working relationships with partner organizations and community leaders for purposes of project implementation and ongoing maintenance.
  • Coordinate guest visits to AKP projects.

Communication

  • Support communication with the travel and tourism industry about AKP projects and programs.
  • Prepare draft articles for use with internal PR / media.
  • Respond to project information requests and visitation from internal staff.
  • Manage the process of securing (photographing) and contributing AKP project images to the A&K Digital Image Library.

Donor Relations Role

  • Effectively communicate with donors (new and current) at the camp and when they visit a project.
  • Tracking restricted gift expenditures and reporting same in the reports

Skills and Competence

  • Good command of written and spoken English and proficiency of local language(s).
  • Experience in computer use, project analysis/budgeting & management, collecting data and compiling information into reports.
  • Good destination knowledge Tarangire National Park and the bordering communities.
  • Ability to travel frequently throughout the project areas.
  • Work with very minimum supervision, self-driven and customer relationship focus person.
  • Have acquired a high passion to work with local communities and excellent skills in managing team/group/community.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining partnerships with a diversity of key stakeholders.
  • Skilled in public presentations and successful donor relations.
  • Adhere to reporting requirements regarding presentation, content, and deadlines.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, courtesy, cooperation, and pride of ownership in all day-to-day activities and special projects.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of a diploma preferably in Community Development, Tourism, marketing, or communication discipline from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in successful NGO programme coordination and in the tourism sector.

Special Requirements

  • Weeknights and weekends may be required.
  • Staying at the camp throughout the year.
